I was reading from Genesis 20 this morning where Abraham lets Sarah his wife go with Abimelech. The text that stands out to me is spoken by the Lord to Abimelech which says,

“it was I who kept you from sinning against me” (Genesis 20:6)

What we have here is profound. We can see that God’s law was binding on the king who did not have God’s written law. Also we can see that God’s mercy was also made known to the same.

Because of things like this, I cannot help but affirm there is clearly some form of theonomy; that is that God’s government is over all people everywhere and his law is binding so that his mercy would be as well.
